Success story of watsapp
What will be the first app, you will install after buying a new phone. Most of us will answer watsapp. One of the best smartphone messaging app. I don’t think there will be any person who has smartphone but don’t use watsapp. But do you know whats the story behind it.
This great messaging service was started by two friend namely Brian Acton and Jan Koum. Brian was a Yahoo engineer and Jan was working ion Woo Woo. Jan was born in a very simple family. He was born in a very small town of Ukraine. His dad worked in a construction company. He completed his education from SAN JOSE STATE UNIVERSITY. Brian who has spent his childhood in Central Florida. HE completed his education from Stanford University. He worked in Apple as a software engineer and then in 1996 he joined Yahoo. They met in Yahoo Office. Brain even says that When I saw Jan he was some how different from others. He was very hardworking. From that their friendship was started.
Start of watsapp
After working there 10 years. They decided to quit job and to start something of their own. The idea of watsapp first hit Jan when he was watching a movie. He though that there must be some messaging app through which he could tell his what was in movie. That too at cheapest rate. He told about his idea to Brian. They both know coding very well. So They created an app but there was a lot of bugs in it.
First was at the time of registration the OTP that was sent to mobiles that cost was detected from Jan bank account. Second was that sometimes message would come and sometimes it won’t. In end jan said that to leave this and to look for a stable job. At that time Brian told we should try more harder. To continue the project They needed a job. So went to Facebook headquarters but they was rejected. At that moment neither they have job nor was their watsapp going well.
Life changing moment
They told all their friend about their project. So they could collect some money in order to continue watsapp. They were able to convince their friend and collected some money. They worked day and night to solve all the problems of watsapp. From 2010 to 2014 its growth increased exponentially. These 4 years proved to be the life changing for them. In August 2014. It has a total user of 600 million. And the biggest irony is that the Facebook who rejected Brian and Jan. They bought watsapp for 19 billion dollars and gave them jobs too.
