Ways and steps to overcome depression
I want to tell you about my experiences with depression. Why I think God allows some of us to experience it in our lives. And how we can have hope in the midst of it.
I am not a doctor, a psychologist, or a psychiatrist. I am simply one who has experienced depression first-hand. In fact I am the one who with help of god has learned from the experience.
What causes depression?
Medical practitioners could give you reason why this occurs, but I will share from my own experiences of those who have shared their struggles with me. It seems that depression is often triggered by trauma in our lives. It could be emotional, mental, social, physical or a combination of any of these factors.
Tip 1: Stay connected
When you feel depressed, the tendency is to with draw and isolate. Even reaching out to close family members and friends can be tough. Compound that with the feelings of shame and the guilt you may feel at neglecting your relationships. But social support is absolutely essential to depression recovery.
Tip 2:Make face-time a priority
Phone calls, social media, and texting are great ways to stay in touch. But they don’t replace good old-fashioned in-person quality time. The simplest act of talking to someone face to face about how you feel can play a big role in lifting the fog of depression and keeping it away.
Tip 3: Find ways to support others.
It’s nice to receive support, but research shows but research shows you get an even bigger mood boost from providing support yourself. So find ways-both big and small-to help others.
Be a listening ear for a friend, do something nice for somebody.
